A Lunch Lady's School Year

An average student will spend 4-5 years at college to get their degree but have you thought about the staff that will stay longer. The busy bees yet organized staff at Bloomsburg are constantly meeting timid, peppy, and unique individuals every year/semester. As an incoming freshmen you will transfer from receiving melting favorable dinners promptly around 7pm to around the clock prepared passable food. Being that this is the first group of staff you will meet in hopes that they will give you close to home cooked meals they will seem the most important to a student.

Walking into commons with hungry flying butterflies
chip- weekly host
in your stomach you can smell freshly baked pizza, sizzling hamburgers, mouthwatering options at the chef's table, and the famous sweet rich chocolate chip cookies all when meeting Chip. While whipping the tears from you flushed face you're happy to see a smiling face telling you the dinner options for today. Chip is an older yet funny spirited host. With white hair pulled back in a ponytail, contagious smile, and back to back jokes to lift your spirits, she reminds you of the grandmother from home that you've missed. While swiping your I.D card you'll know this is only one of many times you two will met and each day better then the last.
Commons has a variety of both food and seating. Before my interview I grab a quick lunch with friends as we catch up and laugh our stress away. My go to favorite is a crispy golden chicken on a golden bun topped with cheese, mayo, ranch and paired with hot steamy french fries or tots. We took our usual seat behind the calm dripping fountain, painted with a large size husky wit rocks at the bottom. When meeting Chip she quickly gave me ins and outs of Commons and how she finds her job exciting to go to. While sitting Chip says" You know, I always thought was all that and a bag of chips but, I didn't think I was all that and an interview". Simple yet slightly cheesy humor is what will make you smirk as the nervous sweats dry from your beating face and feels more of a conversation than an interview. "Hey, I like to talk, so every once in a while when a student like ya self starts up a good ole conversation I'm able to meet and connect to new people and love my job an inch more". Chip continues to tell me how she walks by the sweaty fast pasting chef's preparing food, young workers whipping effortlessly at the dirty tables, and watches how new flavors of ice cream are made all before her shift starts. Talking to chip made me realize at times we need to be reminded to get off our phones and social media to connect with people face to face and thank the staff for all they do.
